Sculptural acrylic, oil & luminescent pigment on panel
Inspired by Pincushion Island on Lake Muskoka, this work captures the quiet intensity of a place that becomes fixed in memory. A small cluster of windswept pines, both grounded and isolated, standing against the constant movement of water and sky.
The surface is built through heavy, sculptural layering — acrylic and oil pushed, carved, and reworked to create a tactile landscape that holds depth and movement. Up close, the painting reveals a physical terrain of marks; from a distance, it resolves into a familiar and iconic form.
Luminescent pigment is embedded within the composition, allowing the piece to carry a subtle glow in low light. As the environment shifts, so does the painting — maintaining a presence even after the light fades.
At 60 x 84 inches, Pincushion is a statement work designed to anchor a space. It balances energy and stillness, abstraction and recognition, offering both visual impact and a lasting sense of place.
